With 120,000 works of art on view, this premier collection of Chinese artifacts warrants at least half a day to browse the 11 galleries of calligraphy, jade, bronze, ceramics, and sculptures (not to mention furniture from the Ming and Qing Dynasty, paintings, coins, and other historical treasures). The audio tours are worthwhile, and written descriptions of the relics are also offered in English. Take a break in the museum's tearoom, and hit the bookshop for souvenirs. Admission is free for students from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays. Otherwise, the cost is $2.47, or $7.40 with the audio tour. Open: Sunday through Friday 9¨C5, Saturdays 9¨C8. Tickets are sold until one hour before closing. No. 2 Renmin Da DaoShanghai Tel: 21 6372 3500 |
